Widgets and API's
With the growth of the Social Networking sites and the opening up of their API's to developers, there has been an explosion in the development of "widgets" - specific applications which appear on a site to deliver information, capture data or effect transactions from within the target networked community.
Flickr has been one of the sites that have been a leading company for widget applications - including the Flickr "badge" which appears on the KMP blog and we also used Flickr for the photogallery and upload application on the Chester Zoo website.
The Chester Zoo application allows end users to upload a photo which is watermarked for ChesterZoo.org. This is stored in the CMS for moderation. Once approved the photo is uploaded onto Flickr.com where potentially the 18 million site population can search for an animal photo and be linked back to the Chester Zoo site.
